Bharthana is a Tehsil level town located 120 Km each from Kanpur and Agra, UP. Bharthana is known for rice mills and grain market.Bharthana has 3 Inter College for boys and 1 for girls. Bharthana has a Nagar Palika which looks after local governance. Bharthana is the central tahsil of the district bounded on the west by Etawah tahsil, on the north by the district of Mainpuri and Farrukhabad, on the east by tahsils Bidhuna and Auraiya and on the south by the .State of Madhya Pradesh, The tahsil has an oblong shape, stretching right across the district from northern to southern extremity. According to the census of 1971 it had 311 villages and two towns covering an area 1.124 sq- km. with a population of 3,42.341 persons (females 1,54,301). The major local roads are: Jawahar Road, Azad Road, Bajaja Lines and localities: Gandhi Nagar,Mahavir Nagar,Moti Gang, Nevil Gang,Girdharipura etc. The Population of Bharthana is consists of Hindus and a few Muslims. Bharthana is lagistalive assembly seat of UP and it is surrounded by rural areas where majority of people are Yadavs therefore, elected repersentative of assembly seat is a Yadav most of the time. The present MLA is Vinod Yaday, who Won the electction from Congress party and now have swithed over to Samajwadi party ( A Local outfit of Mulayam Singh Yadav,present CM of UP) Vinod Yadav had contested the assembly election from BSP party also before. Vinod Yadav's Older Brother Maharaj Singh yadav was elected from Bharthana assembly Seat several times. Bharthana legistative assembly is part of Parliamentary seat of Kannouj and present Member of Parliament is Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav. There is a Middle school which is located on Jawaher Road. This is a Government school. The Girls inter college,known as "Arya Shyama Inter college" is located on Azad Road and present Principal is Ms Kusum Pradhan.
